Yige Xu: Piano
I chose Toccata in D minor, Op.11 by Prokofiev because of the amazing dramatic intensity and chromaticism.
I usually play Classical and Romantic pieces, but challenged myself to learn a 20th century piece, and although it was difficult to learn, I really enjoy performing it.
Sunflower by Wang Yu Shi (video not featured) is a Chinese folk song from the 1960s, arranged for the piano Ling Er Yao. I picked it because of its lively character, and it was only better when my Grandma recognised it, after first hearing it years before. I’ve really enjoyed learning new techniques to perform this piece.
