Consumer or Consumed?

Watercolour, prismacolour pencils, graphite and gel pen on paper

My body of work addresses the fine line between the power of advertising in the products we consume and their addictive hold on us. Are we the consumers or the consumed?

The image of the Apple iPhone illustrates the irony of the user consuming the product that increasingly consumes our lives. There is also an oblique reference to the apple as the tangible form of original sin – that which is not good for us.

The impact of multinational companies like Coca-Cola that affect not only us but the environment we live in, is also addressed.

I have developed my work along similar themes to Japanese photographer Haruhiko Kawaguchi who is interested in depicting the claustrophobia and pressures of suburban living.
